Rachel has raised more than £30,000 for local causes since 2011 in memory of her mother Shirley who passed away from leukaemia. Along with her brothers Daniel and Matthew, Rachel has organised and taken part in a number of physical challenges including the Frome Cobble Wobble, cycling from Frome to Lands End in 21 hours, pulling a fire engine for 5k around Frome and last year’s huge community 24 hour row in which 678 broke the world record for the most amount of people to row 500m in a 24 hour period!
Rachel will be organising another world record attempt in 2019 in the community with a continuous 8 hour skittles relay. However, as WHY are celebrating their 25th anniversary Rachel wants to go the extra mile each and every day of 2019.
“I want to commit to something everyday. With a demanding full time job it has to be something very versatile that I can do wherever I am, whatever the weather. It’s not about the distance or how quickly I can run, it’s about commitment. To raise awareness and funds I am asking people to join me a few times a week on the condition that they wear a WHY t-shirt and make a donation to WHY. It’s so important for me to give back to a vital service in my community, a service that helped me cope with my own grief. It’s the very least I can do.”
This website will allow Rachel to track her one mile runs and allow you to see her progress and find out when and where she’d like some company!
